The year 2011 saw a sharp increase in bed bugs making bed bug control a bigger issue than it has been for years. Bed bugs are extremely difficult to get rid of once they get into your home to the point that you will want to get a professional to spray your house and you will need to go through all of your clothes and wash them to make sure they are gone. It is a time consuming terrible process that means prevention should be your biggest concern.

Bed bugs are very small and they like to crawl up in tight places around the house. This can be inside splinters in the wooden floor in a small flap of wallpaper or the crevices of a bed of course. If you attempt to remove them yourself and just miss a couple they will gradually refill your house and you will have the same problem to deal with. You need to get them all as quickly as possible if you are infected.

If you live in an apartment the bugs can get into the walls pretty easily so the best thing to do would be spray the apartments around you too. The problem is many landlords are embarrassed or concerned that the neighbors will want to move out so they do not do this. They also will want you to take all of your clothing and run them through the dryer which is hot enough to kill any bugs or eggs that may be on them. Any material that cannot be dried like a mattress is usually thrown out. So it is time consuming and expensive.

The best way to practice bed bug control and keep them out of your house is to not be around them. Do not go to an apartment or building that has bed bugs. Avoid materials that are on the ground or outside. The homeless population of major cities tends to carry bed bugs so you will want to avoid areas that they spend time in.

There are guides and products that claim to be able to take care of bedbug infestations for you but do you really want to risk missing just a couple of them? It is not a good idea and while pest control companies want as much business as they can get you should listen to them when they say they should be the ones to handle your infestation. Bed bugs feed off of human blood and will leave painful red sores on your body where they bite you. This can be humiliating and uncomfortable. If you think you have a bed bug problem do not wait and do not be afraid to call someone. Practical and effective bed bug control begins with being proactive and moving at the first sign that you have a problem.
